Project Canoe Certification Guide -

The minimal base certifications required to be a Canoe Tripper at Project Canoe are:

  • Bronze Cross 

  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid

There are a variety of other more advanced certifications that meet these requirements as well, including:

  • National Lifeguard

  • Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness EMT

This guide will help to direct you to some organizations/facilities that offer the base certifications we require, as well as the advanced and recertification options if needed.  If you have any questions at all please reach out to us, we would be happy to help you navigate through choosing a certification or answer any questions you may have.

Swimming Certifications - Bronze Med & Cross 

Shendy’s Swim Centre - 25 Scarsdale Rd - Unit 10, Toronto, ON

Classes:

  • Bronze Medallion (Cross pre-req) - April 1-3  OR May 6-8 (3 days) 

  • Bronze Cross - April 8-10 OR May 6-8 (3 days) 

  • Bronze Cross recert - April 1 OR May 23 (1 day) 

Lifeguarding Academy - multiple locations across Toronto and North York

Classes:

A variety of Bronze Cross, Med and recerts of both (also offer a combo course). Click the link above to look at dates (there are a lot of options)

First Aid Certifications - WAFA & WFR

Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA)

Courses - a variety of courses that are always being updated - check it out to find something near you. They have WAFA, WFR and Open-Recert courses. Continue looking back to see if they have added new courses.
