To say that it changed my life would be an understatement
— Wade, Youth Participant

Mission

We partner with youth facing barriers to create experiences rooted in the outdoors. Our programs foster learning, confidence and transformation.

Vision

To be leaders in creating experiences with young people, regardless of what challenges they face, to be more connected to the environment, themselves and their community.

Values

Equity

We recognize that there are significant obstacles to the outdoors for youth with barriers and those who want to work in it. We are therefore dedicated to integrating anti-oppressive and equitable processes throughout all facets of the organization, to ensure we are meeting the diverse needs of our youth and broader PC community.

Youth Centred

We understand that by seeing each youth as a unique individual, the opportunities for growth and change are endless. We prioritize learning from our youth and working alongside them in our governance, program planning and implementation, evaluation, and communications.

Culture of Care

We are committed to creating environments that are welcoming, participatory and trauma-informed by providing a high level of support and care. We place the health and wellbeing of our community above all else. Kindness and respect are central to all of our relationships. This also extends to the environment and how stewardship of the land is integrated into programs.

Power of the Outdoors

We believe that the inherent healing power of the outdoors is key to our programs. We use this venue to assist youth with self examination while celebrating successes and creating countless memories.

Community

We will always take the time to listen and engage with communities to ensure our programs are informed and impactful.

Strategic Plan 2023

In 2022, we began the process of developing our Strategic Plan for the next 3 to 5 years. This plan will provide Project Canoe opportunity for growth and development while focusing on sustainability and our commitment to providing access to the outdoors for youth. The priorities include:

  • Build up our year round program offerings  to best serve youth in a holistic manner,

  • Increase equitable and inclusive program and employment opportunities by reducing barriers to outdoor education, and creating avenues for new voices to inform our services,

  • Diversify and solidify approach to achieve fiscal sustainability,

  • Develop measurement and data-management approach and processes to better understand our clients and impact, and

  • Diversify and secure Staff and Board Members to support our targeted strategic goals.
