Our Leader In Training Program

For our older campers who have been on trips with us before and who would like to develop their leadership skills, Project C.A.N.O.E. offers its Leaders-in- Training program. The LIT trip is 21-days long (plus 3 days of preparation) and focuses on developing canoeing, tripping, leadership and teamwork skills. The LITs help to lead certain days of the trip, have a solo experience and work on solving problems as a group. LITs can certify in certain skills areas (i.e. first aid, swimming and canoeing). The trip is co-ed.

After the summer, LITs are encouraged to work with our Program Director to pursue further skills development over the course of the winter.  A small Bursary Fund is available to underwrite the costs of courses geared to achieving certification in outdoor skills. LITs are also invited to help organize and participate in Project C.A.N.O.E.’s winter activities including indoor rock climbing, paddle making and dog sledding.
