Duke of Ed Award

If you are 14 or over, you can achieve the Expedition component of the Bronze Duke of Ed Award by going on a canoe trip with Project C.A.N.O.E.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an international award program created to challenge youth to set personal goals and achieve them. Self-motivation in areas that are of interest to you is a large component of the award! Youth receive the award when they achieve certain goals over a period of time in four different areas. The areas are: Community Service (volunteer work), Expeditions (for instance, going on a canoe trip with Project C.A.N.O.E.!), Skills (learning 1st Aid or learning to play the guitar), and Personal Fitness (going to the gym or playing basketball for example).  The award is a great way to challenge yourself and receive recognition for doing the things that you love doing!  The actual award is a pin! But the real award comes from the experiences you’ll have and the RESPECT that people with the award receive.

If you are 14 or over, you can earn the Expedition part of the Bronze Duke of Ed Award by going on a canoe trip with Project C.A.N.O.E. If you’re interested in learning about how to achieve the other parts, and would like help in doing so - we want to help you!

Abner Lico is the Field Officer who knows about Project C.A.N.O.E. and is excited to help our campers accomplish the first award level-Bronze. You can contact him at (416) 203-2282 or alico@dukeofed.org. Tell him you’re from PC. He’ll be excited to hear from you! For more information you can visit the website www.dukeofed.org or call

Many Universities look for more than marks when they consider students for admission or for scholarships. Participation, leadership, contribution and personal achievement are important factors along with academic success. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offers students a way to demonstrate these facets of their lives, and provides concrete evidence of their accomplishments. In addition, the Duke of Edinburgh programme gives young people and excellent opportunity to strengthen the qualities and skills that will make them successful in a university or college and in later life. Time management, organization, volunteerism and, most important, self-confidence based on solid achievement.
